Grab is Southeast Asia's leading superapp, offering various services such as food delivery, financial management, and ride-hailing.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer, Backend to join our growing engineering team in Beijing, China. You will be reporting to Software Engineering Manager II and work at the intersection of backend product engineering and Site Reliability Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Analytics teams to understand problems and requirements
- Work with engineers across Grab to deliver reliable customer and partner experiences
- Design, build, and operate backend systems that support Mobility at scale
- Write reusable, scalable, and testable code
- Review code and engineering specs, provide constructive feedback
- Be responsible and responsive during on-call duty
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team's overall growth and knowledge sharing
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in distributed systems environments
- Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Go, C++, Python, or similar)
- Experience with computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and system design principles
- Experience designing and operating high-throughput or real-time distributed systems
- Solid knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with production observability, including metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, and runbooks
- Understand reliability practices such as SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, safe deployments, rollback strategies, capacity planning, and postmortem follow-ups
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, like AWS, and modern delivery practices such as CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure automation
