Description
We are seeking a Head of Structures to lead the Body Structures team, reporting to the Body Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and leading the team to deliver all responsible components, sub-systems, and systems on all projects, meeting or exceeding all targets, KPIs, and milestones defined within the McLaren Development Process (MDP).
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing, building, leading, and developing the Body Structures team
- Promoting and implementing a simultaneous approach to vehicle development cross-functionally with internal and external partners
- Ensuring design and engineering integrity to exceed Performance, Quality, and Vehicle Life targets
- Meeting BOM and Invest targets, including piece cost, outsourced labour, tooling, and D&D investment
- Leading the technical assessment, integration, and application of new and existing technologies on new projects and existing series vehicles
- Managing and facilitating the definition of future component and system technical strategies and associated technical roadmaps
- Identifying and registering new technology opportunities for Patents and Copyright
- Preparing and presenting material to support external and internal project reviews
- Supporting vehicle and project attribute owners with respect to development and reporting
- Leading the Body Structures Team in the management and delivery of component and sub-system BOM, specifications, FMEAs, DVP, DFA, and DFM
- Establishing and controlling design release in line with ETRS requirements
- Guaranteeing delivery of Body Structures responsibilities for all projects in line with MDP
- Leading the team in the execution and evaluation of results of component testing and supporting all associated vehicle development, testing, manufacturing, launch, and planning activities
- Identifying and evaluating risk in terms of project delivery and brand image
- Managing the efficient and effective use of physical and financial resources
- Maximising performance and development as an individual and a leader/manager
- Setting SMART goals and objectives for individuals and the team
- Leading by example and promoting effective leadership within the Body Structures Team
- Ensuring the quality of the individual engineering teams in terms of leadership and continuous development
- Promoting and implementing Individual and Career Development Plans
- Managing activities to ensure a healthy, safe, and productive working environment
- Managing and leading ethically and without prejudice or discrimination
The ideal candidate will have:
- A high level of technical knowledge and experience of Body Structural component, system design, development, manufacturing, and testing
- Previous managerial experience working in an OEM or tier one supplier with whole product life cycle, resource planning experience (minimum 3 years)
- Component and system design within an APQP or similar framework, including FMEA, DVP, component planning, and PPAP
- Engineering degree 2:1 minimum or equivalent relevant training and experience
- Management or Leadership Training (MEP or equivalent)
