Staff Software Engineer, Claude Code

Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help build and maintain new agentic coding tools for developers.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable features and infrastructure for AI-powered development tools
• Engage directly with developers to gather insights and improve user experience
• Collaborate with researchers to improve model capabilities through shared tools and evals
• Stay ahead of advancements in AI-assisted coding by experimenting with new tools and techniques
• Contribute across the stack to develop new features, fix bugs, and optimize performance
• Dive into unfamiliar areas like Python notebooks, VS Code plug-ins, and containerized environments

Requirements:

• 6+ years of work experience
• Experience with AI-assisted coding, developer tools, and large language models
• Expertise in React development, performance optimization, and user experience engineering
• Hands-on experience with prompt engineering and safety, security, and compliance requirements

Nice to Have:

• Experience with CLI tools, container orchestration, and cloud infrastructure
• Knowledge of TypeScript, JavaScript runtimes like Bun and Deno, and scaling projects
• Familiarity with AI research and its applications

The annual compensation range for this role is $320,000-$625,000 USD.
