Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Level Designer intern to join our team in Annecy, France for 6 months. As a Level Designer intern, you will contribute to the design of coherent, readable, and adapted game spaces within the World team.
Under the guidance of the Lead Level Design and Level Designers, you will work closely with Level Artists to transform gameplay intentions into playable, readable, and coherent spaces. You will learn to design spaces considering navigation, rhythm, readability, player behaviours, and technical and artistic constraints of the project.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the design and editing of game spaces in collaboration with Level Designers
- Work on layout, flow, navigation, rhythm, and readability of spaces
- Prototype and test different solutions to evaluate their impact on the player experience
- Observe player behaviours and integrate feedback into iterations
- Respect technical, artistic, and production constraints defined by the team
Collaboration with Level Art:
- Work in pairs with Level Artists to build spaces where design and visual realisation reinforce each other
- Understand how artistic choices can improve or disrupt navigation, readability, and player experience
- Exchange solutions to reconcile gameplay intentions, composition, and visual quality
- Develop a sensitivity to Level Art issues
Collaboration with the World team:
- Work under the guidance of the Lead Level Design and Level Designers
- Participate in exchanges with other World professionals to understand their constraints and dependencies with Level Design
- Learn to communicate clearly your intentions and explain your design choices
- Contribute to collective reflections on space quality
Skill Development:
- Develop mastery of Level Design tools and methods used by the team
- Learn to work in a real-time engine and AAA production environment
- Develop ability to analyse a space and identify flow, navigation, or readability issues
- Gradually gain autonomy on assigned tasks
Requirements:
- Education in game design, level design, video games, or similar field
- Personal projects or first experience demonstrating interest in game space design
- Good understanding of navigation, flow, rhythm, and readability principles
- Sensitivity to how a space influences player behaviours and choices
- Interest in real-time engines and level creation tools
- English language proficiency
