GovTech is the lead agency driving Singapore's Smart Nation initiatives and public sector digital transformation. As the Centre of Excellence for Infocomm Technology and Smart Systems (ICT & SS), GovTech develops the Singapore Government's capabilities in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, Application Development, Smart City Technology, Digital Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity.
You will join the Ministry of Education's Software Engineer department as a Senior/Staff Software Engineer, specialising in Mobile Engineering, to work on the Parents Gateway (PG) mobile application. The platform consists of a parent-facing mobile application, a web platform for school staff, and the backend services and cloud infrastructure that power them.
Your responsibilities include:
- Building the Next Generation of PG Mobile: designing and developing a high-quality mobile application that will form the parent-facing experience of the new Parents Gateway
- Mobile Architecture & Technical Direction: shaping key architectural and technology decisions across application structure, state management, data flows, native capabilities and integrations
- Mobile Platform Engineering: establishing reusable foundations, components and engineering patterns that enable the team to build new capabilities consistently and efficiently
- Performance & Reliability: driving improvements in application startup, responsiveness, stability, crash rates, network resilience and overall mobile performance
- Mobile Delivery & Operations: strengthening automated testing, build pipelines, release processes, observability and App Store/Google Play delivery
- Engineering Excellence: raising the bar for mobile engineering through good software design, code and design reviews, technical standards and mentorship of other engineers
You will also work closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Education Officers, backend engineers and fellow mobile engineers to translate real problems faced by parents into simple, accessible and reliable mobile experiences.
We are looking for an experienced mobile engineer who thinks beyond individual screens and features and is comfortable taking technical ownership of a mobile application as a whole. You should have:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong professional software engineering experience, with significant experience building and operating production mobile applications
- Strong proficiency with React Native and TypeScript/JavaScript in production mobile applications
- Good understanding of the React Native ecosystem and architecture
- Experience working with native iOS/Swift and/or Android/Kotlin code
- Experience integrating mobile applications with backend APIs, authentication services, push notifications and native device capabilities
- Strong understanding of mobile performance, application lifecycle, networking, offline and error handling, and debugging production issues
- Experience with automated testing, mobile CI/CD, application signing, build pipelines and App Store/Google Play release processes
- Experience with mobile monitoring, analytics, crash reporting and observability tools
- Ability to independently navigate ambiguous technical problems, evaluate alternatives and drive solutions from design through implementation
- Experience contributing to technical direction, conducting meaningful code and design reviews, and mentoring other engineers
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with product, design and engineering teams
