Description

We are seeking a Practical Reserve Volunteer to join our team at WWT Slimbridge, a 325-acre wetland nature reserve of national importance.

As a volunteer, you will provide regular support for practical reserves management, including maintaining and restoring various habitats to attract migratory birds and improve species biodiversity on site. You will ensure that our reserve grounds are maintained to the highest standard for wildlife and that they look their best for visitors.

No previous experience is required for this role, and full training will be provided. You should be practically minded, have a good level of physical fitness, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and restore various habitats to attract migratory birds and improve species biodiversity on site
  • Ensure that the reserve grounds are maintained to the highest standard for wildlife and visitors
  • Work independently using your own initiative and keep self-motivated
  • Engage with members of the public and provide information about the reserve

Requirements:

  • Practically minded with a can-do attitude
  • Good level of physical fitness
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather
  • Passion for nature and wildlife conservation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in habitat management or willingness to develop these skills
  • Confidence in talking to and engaging with members of the public

Additional notes:

  • Volunteers are expected to be available from 10am-4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays
  • This role is not suitable for people under 18 years old
