As a Software Engineer II, you will:
- Ship code that engineering teams across Elastic rely on
- Learn from experienced engineers while owning real work
- Build expertise in Go, Kubernetes, and the cloud-native ecosystem
- Find your specialty and grow with the team
Responsibilities:
- Build features and components for production services
- Take ownership of well-scoped pieces of larger projects, from requirements through production
- Propose technical solutions and bring them through to working code
- Pair with senior engineers on harder problems and ask clarifying questions early
- Participate in code reviews and design discussions
- Help operate the services we own and take part in the on-call rotation
- Investigate incidents beyond the runbook and leave them better for the next person
- Automate repetitive work through code
- Communicate status and blockers early and often
Requirements:
- Hands-on experience writing services in Go, or strong proficiency in another systems language with motivation to ramp up on Go
- Working understanding of Kubernetes fundamentals (Pods, Deployments, Services, Operators)
- Familiarity with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Curiosity about distributed systems and how services communicate at scale
- Comfort working through ambiguity with support from more experienced engineers
- A collaborative approach: welcoming feedback, sharing context, learning from teammates
- Clear written and verbal communication in a distributed, async-first setting
- Care about the quality of work shipped , testing, observability, and operability
