Description
The Regulatory Strategy and Analytics Analyst position supports the development, analysis, and execution of regulatory strategies for Alabama Power Company's Regulatory Affairs.
The successful candidate will perform strategic research, regulatory analytics, and develop performance metrics. They will apply data analysis techniques, visualization tools, generative AI, and analytical technologies to identify trends, automate research activities, improve workflow efficiency, and develop insights that support regulatory strategy.
The analyst will work closely with various business organizations, including regulatory affairs, finance, operations, planning, marketing, customer service, economic development, power delivery, and others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop data analytics tools to monitor emerging utility issues, policies, and trends.
- Support compliance with new regulatory requirements and coordinate implementation activities.
- Assist with rate filings, clauses, adjustments, and related Commission engagement.
- Develop annual metrics and facilitate annual reviews and meetings with the APSC and Attorney General’s Office.
- Conduct peer utility and jurisdictional research and communicate relevant policy and regulatory insights to management and APSC staff.
- Build and manage effective relationships with internal business partners and external regulatory stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, engineering preferred.
- MBA desirable.
- Data analytics modeling and interpretation experience required.
- Experience performing quantitative and qualitative analysis, benchmarking, peer utility research, trend analysis, and performance metric evaluation required.
- Experience working in utility regulatory frameworks, operations, financials, planning, and/or policy strongly preferred.
- Ability to translate business questions into analytical plans, dashboards, and clear decision-support insights.
- Experience developing reports, presentations, dashboards, analytical models, or business recommendations preferred.
- Experience utilizing advanced AI technologies, including generative AI, natural language processing, intelligent assistants, or predictive analytics tools preferred.
- Strong communication skills.
- Familiarity with Alabama Power's regulatory framework, rate mechanisms, and state regulatory requirements preferred.
