Description
The NOC Network Operations Engineer is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and supporting the organisation's network infrastructure to ensure high availability, optimal performance, and rapid incident response.
This role operates within a 24×7 Network Operations Center (NOC) environment and plays a key part in safeguarding production stability, resolving network incidents, and coordinating with internal teams and external service providers.
Responsibilities:
Network Monitoring & Incident Response
- Monitor network infrastructure, WAN/LAN links, firewalls, load balancers, and data center equipment using NMS/monitoring tools.
- Detect, analyse, and respond to network alerts and performance anomalies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve L1/L2 network issues within agreed SLAs.
- Perform initial diagnosis and escalate to L3 engineering teams when required.
- Maintain detailed incident records and ensure timely communication to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with network service providers and other parties on production support.
- Work in shift rotations (24×7 operations).
Operations & Maintenance
- Conduct routine health checks on network devices and critical circuits.
- Support planned maintenance activities, including network upgrades, patching, and configuration changes.
- Assist in managing network assets, documentation updates, and configuration archives.
- Collaborate with vendors/telcos to resolve circuit or hardware issues.
Service Management
- Handle ServiceNow incidents, requests, and change tickets in accordance with ITIL processes.
- Participate in root cause investigations and assist in producing post-incident reports.
Security & Compliance
- Monitor and respond to security-related network events in coordination with the security team.
- Ensure adherence to governance, compliance, and change control standards.
- Support audit exercises and maintain evidence for control checkpoints.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend enhancements to monitoring dashboards, alert thresholds, and operational workflows.
- Contribute to automation initiatives to reduce manual operational tasks.
- Participate in knowledge sharing and develop procedural runbooks.
- Adopt tools and systems, such as JIRA, Confluence to enhance operation tasks and productivity.
Requirements:
Education & Professional Experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- 2–5 years of experience in network operations, NOC environment, or L1/L2 support roles.
- Previous experience in regulated environments, e.g. banking, financial institution, exchanges, is an added advantage.
- Holder of Cisco CCNP or equivalent (Huawei HCIP) is required.
- Holder of ITIL Foundation is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, MPLS, VPN, and network protocols.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco/Juniper/Arista network devices.
- Familiarity with firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point) is a plus.
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, SevOne, Zabbix, Netbrain).
- Basic understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management).
- Experience in programming with Python for network automation is a plus.
