Description
We are seeking a Principal Engineer - OHL to oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of overhead line electrification systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and approve transmission line tower and foundation designs, including associated documents and accessories.
- Create engineering documents related to transmission tower and foundation design.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards.
- Optimize the overall weight of the tower and foundation with respect to tender quantity.
- Perform sag tension calculations and provide approximate tower weights at the tender stage.
- Design transmission towers using PLS Tower software for transmission line design.
- Develop associated engineering design calculations and documentation.
- Support the creation of material bill of quantity schedules.
- Attend virtual site meetings and provide ongoing design drawing changes and support during project build.
- Review designs produced by suppliers and clients to ensure technical compliance with current legislation and policies.
- Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers on moderately complex projects.
- Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in designing Overhead Line Circuits (towers and/or poles) at any voltage up to 400kV.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering.
- Knowledge of applicable engineering standards.
- Experience with PLS-CADD, Tower, or similar design software.
- Experience in overhead line electrification projects.
- Knowledge of OHL design and construction standards.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools such as AutoCAD and PLS-CADD.
- Strong project management skills.
- Understanding of electrical engineering principles.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of OHL systems.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and practices.
