Description

Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems.

We are looking for a Technical Instructor Lead in New York to help bring our technical instruction standards to life.

About half of your time will be spent delivering ILT hands-on technical instruction in New York and remotely across European time zones. The other half will be spent developing other instructors, running train-the-trainer programs, and improving the quality and consistency of technical instruction across programs.

You are an engineer who teaches and a teacher who makes other teachers better. You can build an agent live in front of a skeptical staff engineer, diagnose a broken lab while a room of learners waits, and adapt when a lesson is not landing. You can also watch another instructor teach for ten minutes and identify the one change that will materially improve their next session.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver hands-on technical instruction across Anthropic's onboarding, residency, and technical enablement programs, in person in New York and remotely across European time zones.
  • Model excellent technical teaching for audiences ranging from small, interactive labs to 100+ technical practitioners, adapting to different levels of experience and technical depth.
  • Run train-the-trainer programs for internal experts, contract instructors, and training partners, using Anthropic's practice-teach, feedback, and certification processes.
  • Coach and calibrate instructors through live and recorded observations, actionable feedback, and recommendations on readiness to teach specific content.
  • Partner with technical experts to turn subject matter expertise into effective sessions, labs, exercises, and demonstrations, and improve content based on what happens in the room.
  • Own instructional quality in assigned programs, staffing yourself and cleared instructors into East Coast program calendars and ensuring delivery meets Anthropic's standards.
  • Use learner and instructor data to identify gaps in instruction and recommend improvements to curriculum, delivery, and instructor development.
  • Help evolve Anthropic's technical instruction function, bringing your experience from the room into our standards, instructor development practices, and approach to scaling quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience across software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or another technically deep role.
  • 3+ years of hands-on technical instruction, including teaching engineers in live environments both in person and remotely.
  • Production engineering experience.
  • Recent hands-on AI development.
  • Instructor development experience.
  • New York City location or willingness to relocate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing or operating a train-the-trainer, instructor certification, or observer-calibration program.
  • A portfolio of sessions, labs, or courses you have designed and taught, plus material you created so others could teach it.
  • Experience teaching across time zones or to European audiences, including coaching instructors from recorded sessions.
  • Experience using Claude Code or a comparable agentic coding tool as a significant part of your engineering workflow.
  • Experience building with the Claude Developer Platform through Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Microsoft Foundry, or comparable infrastructure.
  • Experience with public speaking, conference workshops, or developer advocacy.
  • Deep enthusiasm for AI and a genuine commitment to building and deploying it responsibly.

The annual compensation range for this role is $1-$2 USD.
