Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team at Cummins Inc. in Columbus, Indiana. As a Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will play a critical role in building, repairing, and preparing articles for testing and associated auxiliary equipment.

Job Summary: You will perform testing in accordance with established test procedures and methodology, providing accurate and reliable test results. You will have an in-depth understanding of the function of the test equipment used to perform tests and the contribution of the test equipment to the validity of the test results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform testing in accordance with established test procedures and methodology
  • Configure and operate data acquisition systems; analyze and review data for appropriateness
  • Perform test stand installation, troubleshooting, and setups, and the upkeep and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Provide support and recommendations to engineering for equipment supplier evaluation and qualification, equipment and facility updates, and instrument specification
  • Conduct performance and reliability testing on multiple and single cylinder engines, components, systems, and controls
  • Diagnose engines, components, systems, controls, and test cell problems and initiate appropriate resolutions
  • Create sketches for machining and fabricate necessary piping, tubing, and brackets from prints and drawings
  • Install engines and instrumentation of engines and components in test cells, test rigs
  • Use common tools such as Calterm, Asset, Cyflex, etc.
  • Design, document, and execute test plans; provide input during the creation of test plans; prepare test reports to include findings, conclusions, and recommendations

Requirements:

  • High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required
  • Regionally applicable certification or two-year Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required
  • Significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training, or on-the-job experience
  • Department of Labor Certification OR four-year experience/education requirement accomplished through either Bachelor's degree in a related field OR associate's degree in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience

Work Environment:

  • 100% On-Site
  • This position is posted for 4x10s weeknight shift
  • Technicians will be required to do all mandatory trainings to remain compliant in their roles (HSE, CLC courses, etc.)
  • Technicians will be required to communicate with internal customers via email and collaboration applications (i.e., MS Teams)
  • Technicians will be expected to fulfill daily functional requirements via 5S methodology
  • Technicians will be expected to learn necessary fabrication skills
  • Technicians will be expected to review their time sheet every week
