Story Desk Editor

We are seeking a Story Desk Editor to join our team at WNEP-TV, TEGNA's ABC affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA. As a Story Desk Editor, you will play a critical role in planning and coordinating on-air and online news coverage across our 17-county viewing area in northeastern and central Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities:

• React quickly to breaking news and coordinate crew responses
• Manage time and logistics to ensure efficient story coverage with available staff
• Review news releases, monitor police and fire scanners, and check social media for story ideas
• Make beat calls to local agencies such as police departments and courts
• Represent WNEP in conversations with other media organisations about pool coverage and access issues
• Lead long-term story planning and organise a newsroom calendar
• Provide editorial guidance and manage logistics to execute daily newsroom content
• Use social media platforms to identify trending stories and generate ideas
• Create content for digital platforms, including our website and social media pages
• Coordinate with digital teams and field crews to update stories with new information
• Produce live streams for digital and social platforms during breaking news and severe weather events
• Search and locate criminal and civil document systems for distribution to news and digital producers
• Maintain knowledge of specific political, community, and business leaders

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience required
• 1-3 years of experience working as a newsroom assignment editor
• Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and overtime
• Strong written and verbal communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of AP Style a plus

Pay Range: $20-$23 USD
