Description
Toast is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its Scheduling product team as part of Toast's Team Management Suite for restaurant employers.
As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you will lead deep technical initiatives to increase Toast's consumer footprint and employee engagement within restaurants. You will design solutions that anticipate and accommodate future needs while considering trade-offs. Your responsibilities will include:
- Participating in architectural discussions and influencing the technical roadmap
- Collaborating with Design, Product, and other engineering teams to develop robust and scalable full-stack software applications
- Championing engineering excellence to raise the bar for yourself, your team, and the company
- Leveraging cutting-edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and pioneer new approaches
The ideal candidate will have:
- 8+ years of back-end experience in Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented languages
- Proficiency with modern API design (TypeScript, REST, GraphQL) and relational databases or alternative data stores (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB)
- Balanced expertise in designing high-level technical solutions and executing code-level system performance
- Demonstrated technical leadership with the ability to drive cross-team alignment and influence across engineering, product, and business stakeholders
- A proven track record of building partnerships across engineering, product, customer success, and other stakeholders
- Experience maintaining high-quality deliverables
- Strong customer empathy and a drive to improve user experiences through thoughtful design and continuous product improvement
Toast offers a total rewards package that includes competitive compensation, benefits, and equity. The base salary range for this role is $193,000-$309,000 USD, depending on skills, experience, and geographic location.
