Description
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to build the next stage of our data platform at Zoopla, a leading UK property brand. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing our data engineering projects, from technical direction to business impact.
The Data team at Zoopla exists to turn data into value, driving better decisions for the business, better products for consumers and customers, and generating revenue through data products. Our data platform is built on Databricks, AWS, and dbt, with Fivetran for SaaS sources and AWS services for internal sources.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Owning data engineering projects end-to-end, from technical direction to business impact
- Designing and building standard ingestion and export patterns, and migrating existing pipelines onto them
- Implementing governance into every pipeline, including access, personal data, lineage, and cost
- Using AI to make patterns faster to apply and integrating data engineering into our software factory
- Reviewing code, mentoring other engineers, and sharing knowledge
- Contributing to maintaining a healthy production environment
Requirements:
- Substantial experience building and running production data pipelines
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Deep experience with modern lakehouses, ideally Databricks and Unity Catalog, and with dbt
- Comfortable on AWS and with infrastructure as code (Terraform)
- Strong grounding in ingestion and integration patterns
- A track record of simplifying complex systems
- Experience using AI tools in engineering work
- Practical data governance experience
- Excellent communication skills
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Fivetran, RudderStack, or similar ingestion and reverse ETL tools
- Knowledge of Databricks Lakeflow, Auto Loader, or Delta Sharing
- Exposure to Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers or similar agent tooling
- Experience in property, marketplaces, or other data-rich consumer businesses
