Special Education Teacher

ACCEL Schools is seeking a highly qualified Special Education Teacher at Inkster Preparatory Academy in Inkster, Michigan. The teacher will provide a superior education for all students, creating a rigorous and nurturing classroom environment that prioritizes student learning and social-emotional development.

The Special Education Teacher supports the educational and behavioral goals of all students with a focus on students with an Individualized Education Program. Responsibilities include:

• Working cooperatively with classroom teachers to interpret student abilities and disabilities
• Conducting diagnostic assessments for instruction and functional behavior assessments
• Writing and implementing behavior improvement plans
• Facilitating IEP Meetings and writing IEP goals and objectives
• Relentlessly working to meet student achievement and culture goals
• Utilizing research-based best practices in daily planning and instruction
• Integrating culturally responsive teaching practices into daily lessons and interactions
• Serving as an advisor for a designated set of students
• Communicating regularly with families regarding student growth
• Participating in non-instructional activities such as social events and field trips

The ideal candidate has:

• A current state license
• Knowledge of State Standards and Common Core Standards
• Experience working in a full room inclusion type model or Co-Teaching in a Resource Room model
• High level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment
• High quality written and verbal communication skills
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office products
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
• Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks
• Experience working in a multi-cultural setting preferred
