Description
GitLab is seeking a Backend Engineer to join the Chat Engine team, focusing on GitLab Duo Chat, the conversational AI experience for GitLab.
As a Backend Engineer on the Chat Engine team, you'll build the engine behind GitLab Duo Chat. You'll work primarily in Python to build and maintain the agentic runtime, including the Flow Registry, LangGraph flows, and the Duo Workflow Service. You'll also work in the GitLab Rails monolith, where Chat connects with the product.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop secure, well-tested, and performant features and improvements for GitLab Duo Chat.
- Implement and extend agentic flows in Python using LangGraph.
- Integrate Chat capabilities with the GitLab Rails monolith.
- Write maintainable code that meets internal standards for a high-scale environment.
- Review code and respond promptly to contributions.
- Identify technical debt and propose solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product quality, security, and performance.
- Participate in on-call rotations for troubleshooting and urgent engineering issues.
Requirements:
- Professional experience with Python.
- Working proficiency with Ruby on Rails or a willingness to learn.
- Exposure to or strong interest in building on top of large language models.
- Experience designing and building APIs.
- Security-minded development approach.
- Clear and concise written communication.
- Ability to manage work independently and organize priorities.
- Experience with LangGraph, LangChain, or comparable frameworks.
- Experience with GraphQL and RSpec.
The base salary range for this role is $115,200-$194,400 USD.
