Software Engineer – Programming Languages Team

Forward Networks is looking for a Software Engineer to join the NQE and Programming Languages team. The team develops the Network Query Engine (NQE), a query engine for network data, and maintains domain-specific languages for network verification and assurance software.

The ideal candidate will work on Java development, drawing on concepts from programming languages and database systems. Responsibilities include:

• Developing, enhancing, and maintaining the code base, primarily in Java
• Developing and maintaining NQE using various programming languages and database systems techniques
• Delivering a suite of domain-specific languages used in Forward Enterprise development
• Building and supporting tools associated with these domain-specific languages

Requirements:

• BS in Computer Science or related degree; MS preferred
• 3+ years of work experience with Java, Scala, or similar languages
• Strong object-oriented design and development skills

Nice to haves:

• Strong functional programming skills with experience in languages like Scala, Haskell, or F#
• Experience implementing parts of programming languages or domain-specific languages
• Experience with database-like systems, query parsers, optimizers, or storage formats
• Experience analyzing and optimizing performance of complex applications, especially on JVM-based languages
