Associate Director, Software Engineering

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering.

Principal responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and support Java-based microservices and APIs for lending products and platforms.
• Translate business and functional requirements into well-engineered technical solutions, working closely with Product Owners, BAs, QA, SRE/Operations, and Risk/Compliance partners.
• Build cloud-ready, observable services with strong non-functional qualities: performance, scalability, resilience, and security.
• Implement automated testing and CI/CD pipelines to improve quality and release frequency.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive fixes through to completion.
• Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and knowledge sharing across the team.
• Support modernisation initiatives, such as monolith-to-microservices, platform upgrades, API standardisation, and data/event-driven patterns.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of credit-card system design.
• Strong hands-on Java experience building enterprise-grade services.
• Experience with the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC/WebFlux, and Spring Security.
• Familiarity with microservices patterns, including service decomposition, configuration, resiliency patterns, idempotency, and backward compatibility.
• Database experience with SQL and/or NoSQL.
• Messaging/eventing experience with Kafka and/or MQ.
• Test automation experience with JUnit 5, Mockito, and WireMock/Testcontainers.
• CI/CD and DevOps fundamentals, including Git, build tooling, pipeline automation, and containerisation.
• Security-by-design experience with OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, secrets management, and OWASP awareness.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with global, cross-functional stakeholders.
