Description
We are seeking a Cost Planning Principal Engineer to join our team at American Honda Motor Company in Raymond, Ohio. The successful candidate will play a critical role in determining the cost competitiveness of part/system designs and identifying opportunities for cost reduction and optimization.
Job Purpose The Cost Planning Engineer will have a deep understanding of the Design Category's cost situation, identify concerns with cost accuracy or efficiency, and suggest options for cost reduction and optimization. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background to understand the cost drivers and judge the reasonableness of cost/investment in a given part or system.
Key Accountabilities
- Demonstrate expertise in generating accurate cost estimates from given part characteristics and manufacturing processes
- Regularly consult with Design, Purchasing, and Supplier teams to understand the latest application of technology and purchasing strategies and their impact on cost
- Utilize experience, logic, and comparative analysis to generate proposals for design cost optimization
- Verify the reasonableness of cost targets received and raise awareness if targets cannot be logically validated
- Lead cost discussion events and provide leadership and guidance at each event
- Summarize results and report them at the Group Maru-Q event
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor's level academic degree in a STEM field
- At least 8 years of experience combining product development and design team leadership
- Technical expertise in part materials and manufacturing processes
- Ability to determine if a design is optimized for cost/investment, especially in the areas of chassis and testing
- Knowledge of basic use of CATIA, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint for analysis, reporting, and presentation
- Ability to work well in a team setting or independently in a fast-paced environment
- Automotive industry experience is an asset
