Ocean Planning Associate

Job Overview

As an Ocean Planning Associate at Flexport, you will be crucial in achieving the company's growth goals by supporting new business, current operations, and future ocean services development.

Responsibilities

• Execute end-to-end planning and booking of ocean freight shipments within a regional network, including origin intermodal movements.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for issue resolution and process improvement internally and externally for specific trade lanes or carriers.
• Coordinate daily operations with various teams such as Account Management, Ocean Execution, Allocation and Procurement, ROM, and Ocean Carriers.
• Maintain accurate FMT data, including allocation, sailing schedules, cut-off dates, etc.
• Handle pre-bookings, support trial shipments, and manage rollover lists as necessary.
• Develop best practices, enhance functions, conduct automation studies, and provide feedback to tech/engineering teams.
• Analyze data on utilization and forecasts versus allocation.
• Resolve exceptions and escalations in a timely manner based on agreed SLAs.
• Foster local carrier relationships, including attending carrier meetings and collecting market intelligence.
• Collaborate with Ocean Procurement and Allocation & Yield on allocation planning and escalation handling.
• Prepare forecasts and request soft allocations to secure space for clients.
• Optimize net revenue steering and deadfreight performance management.
• Monitor performance on OTE and other relevant metrics.
• Continuously improve processes.
• Undertake additional projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, business, or related fields.
• At least 5 years of experience in ocean operations or related roles in freight forwarding/logistics.
• Strong written and spoken English skills; proficiency in Chinese is a plus.
• Detail-oriented with a structured approach and eagerness to learn about global supply chain operations.
• Customer-focused mindset with the ability to provide first-class customer service.
