Description
We are seeking a Head of Tax & Treasury to lead our Tax and Treasury team at Argos. As a FTSE business, we move quickly and require a professional with proven UK tax expertise to oversee our tax and treasury affairs.
The successful candidate will be accountable for setting and implementing the Group's Tax and Treasury strategy, policies, governance, and risk framework. They will lead a team of specialist managers and tax professionals, overseeing accurate and timely compliance, tax accounting, external reporting, and treasury activity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading Corporate Tax matters and providing effective oversight across VAT and Indirect Taxes, Customs, and Employment Taxes
- Advising on business initiatives, financing decisions, and significant corporate transactions
- Managing relationships with HMRC, auditors, and external advisers
- Driving improvements in processes, controls, data, and automation
- Providing clear reporting on tax risk, disputes, cash tax, and the effective tax rate
Requirements:
- Relevant professional qualification, such as Chartered Tax Adviser or recognised accountancy qualification
- Proven experience of personally leading UK Corporate Tax, including compliance, tax accounting, and financial reporting in a large or complex organisation
- Demonstrable experience of leading a tax function or significant tax team
- Evidence of providing tax advice and governance reporting to senior stakeholders, Boards, or governance committees
