Description

Ubisoft's Legal Department is organized around dedicated legal counsels for each business area, working hand in hand with every team across the company. As Senior Legal Counsel, Music, you will be part of the Legal team supporting our Game Production teams, based in Paris, and working closely with creative studios around the world.

Music matters to Ubisoft. In this role, you will be the go-to legal expert for everything music-related in our games – from licensing to synchronization – helping our creative teams use the best music while managing the legal risk that comes with it.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review and negotiate music-related agreements (licensing, commissioning, distribution) in French and English, across a variety of third-party contractual relationships
  • Provide strategic and practical legal advice to production teams, translating legal concepts into guidance they can use day to day
  • Be the go-to contact for production teams on any music-related content question, providing tips and tricks to help them move forward
  • Support and train creative teams around the globe to strengthen their legal reflexes, working with other legal counsels to build the tools needed
  • Keep an ear out for shifts in the legal landscape and business developments in the music and video game industries that could impact production
  • Ensure conformity with Ubisoft’s business needs, policies and risk tolerance
  • Anticipate and support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes
  • Work closely with specialized outside counsel on sensitive pre-litigation matters

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in music law, spanning the publishing and/or recorded music fields, ideally gained in-house
  • A strong track record drafting and negotiating music contracts under various legislations, including synchronization licenses, and working with collective management bodies
  • Comfortable managing several projects at once in an international, multicultural environment

Skills and knowledge:

  • Bilingual French/English, equally comfortable drafting and negotiating in both languages
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to translate legal concepts for non-legal audiences
  • Strong negotiation skills with a win-win mindset, comfortable operating in ambiguous or unfamiliar territory
  • Emotionally intelligent and curious, with excellent judgment and the ability to build consensus across cross-functional stakeholders
  • Comfortable balancing process streamlining with in-depth analysis, and not risk-averse

Additional Information: Ubisoft offers the same job opportunities to all, without any distinction of gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, social status, disability, or age. Ubisoft ensures the development of an inclusive work environment which mirrors the diversity of our gamers’ community.
