Description
Anthropic's Infrastructure team is seeking a Data Center Energy Lead to secure power capacity and accelerate energy delivery for their rapidly expanding AI compute footprint across the EMEA region. This is a multi-country role, covering several EU jurisdictions from a single EU base. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of energy markets, physical power, project development, and AI infrastructure needs, leading multi-hundred megawatt procurement efforts and building strategic relationships with Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Distribution System Operators (DSOs), and regulators across multiple European jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
- Develop creative means of energy deployment that drive the fastest timelines to energization while maintaining social license.
- Lead energy procurement and markets strategy to secure multi-hundred megawatt power capacity for AI infrastructure across EU wholesale electricity markets and national capacity mechanisms.
- Own utility and regulatory stakeholder management across multiple European jurisdictions, building strategic relationships with TSOs, DSOs, national regulators, and ACER.
- Drive energy markets and policy strategy for AI compute facilities, monitoring EU network codes, national grid codes, and regulatory developments.
- Partner with engineering and delivery teams to translate energy market dynamics and network constraints into actionable capacity acceleration strategies.
- Develop deep market intelligence on regional power availability, transmission constraints, and connection queue dynamics to inform site selection and deployment strategy.
- Structure innovative commercial frameworks and partnership models that enable faster power delivery and mitigate grid capacity risks.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in energy procurement, utility development, or power markets for large-scale infrastructure projects, with substantial exposure to European energy markets.
- Deep expertise in EU electricity markets, national capacity mechanisms, network connection processes, and transmission system planning.
- Experience securing 100+ MW of power capacity and navigating complex network connection agreements, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), or other offtake agreement structures in Europe.
- Proficiency in analyzing energy market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and grid constraints to inform strategic decision-making.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and experience building relationships with TSOs, DSOs, national regulators, policymakers, and critical equipment vendors.
Nice to Have
- Past experience with energy procurement specifically for datacentres, high-performance computing, or AI/ML infrastructure.
- Familiarity with hyperscale infrastructure requirements and the unique power demands of large-scale AI training and inference workloads.
- Experience with regulatory affairs, energy policy advocacy, or engagement with national regulators, TSOs, ACER, ENTSO-E, and the European Commission.
Benefits
The annual compensation range for this role is £1-£1 GBP. Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space.
