Technical Officer - Department of Ocean Science

The Department of Ocean Science at HKUST is seeking a Technical Officer to provide technical and administrative support for the daily operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities in the Department's research and teaching labs.

Responsibilities:

• Manage IT network infrastructure, virtual servers, and parallel computing systems in Unix/Linux environments.
• Assist in installing, configuring, diagnosing, and troubleshooting software and hardware.
• Liaise with the university's IT Office to ensure network security and infrastructure upgrades.
• Prepare laboratories for academic courses and research projects.
• Provide training in the use of experimental equipment and facilities.
• Assist in monitoring laboratory safety and access control.
• Provide technical support in building and maintaining research computing systems.
• Perform other duties assigned by senior management.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in science disciplines or a relevant higher diploma/certificate.
• At least 2 years of post-qualification working experience in biology or chemistry laboratories.
• Experience in laboratory management and administration, and providing IT support is preferred.
• Strong sense of responsibility, self-initiative, and ability to multi-task and work independently and in a team.
• Good communication skills.

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
