iSeries Production Support/Senior Software Engineer

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of iSeries Production Support/Senior Software Engineer.

In this role, you will own technical design and delivery for IBM i initiatives, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, and supportable. You will provide day-to-day technical direction to developers, lead root-cause analysis for major incidents, and drive permanent fixes.

Key responsibilities include:

• Owning technical design and delivery for IBM i initiatives
• Providing day-to-day technical direction to developers
• Leading root-cause analysis for major incidents and driving permanent fixes
• Working with DB2 for i (SQL, performance tuning, indexing strategies, locking/journalling considerations)
• Applying IBM i operational concepts
• Implementing robust exception handling, logging, and recovery patterns
• Providing L3 production support and technical oversight for L2 teams
• Driving stability improvements through trend analysis, defect prevention, and proactive monitoring enhancements
• Enabling and consuming integrations using API concepts
• Building automation using Python (or similar) for migration, operational tasks, reconciliation, reporting, and validation
• Exploring AI-enabled improvements in collaboration with platform/tooling teams

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• 5+ years hands-on experience with IBM i / iSeries / AS400 in enterprise environments
• Strong development experience in RPGLE (Free), CLLE (COBOL a plus depending on estate)
• Strong DB2 for i capability: SQL, performance tuning, data modelling concepts, and troubleshooting
• Proven track record in production support, troubleshooting, and major incident/root-cause analysis
• Solid understanding of exception handling, resilience patterns, and operational controls
• Working knowledge of API usage and integration concepts (REST, JSON, authentication basics)
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts or practical AIOps use cases

Good to have:

• Experience modernising IBM i applications
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, version control (Git), and automated testing approaches
