As the Developer Advocate Manager for Open Source, you'll lead the team that advocates for the projects Databricks builds in the open, serving as a link between engineering teams and the global community of practitioners.

Your team's remit spans the Open Lakehouse , Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Apache Iceberg, and MLflow , as well as Omnigent, our open source meta-harness.

You'll lead by example, delivering engaging talks, hosting panels and meetups, creating blogs and video content, and meeting one-on-one with influential contributors and maintainers.

Community engagement will be at the heart of your role, working closely with open source communities and product and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own developer relations for our open source portfolio end-to-end , set the strategy, define success, and be accountable for outcomes.
  • Hire, level, and grow a team of Developer Advocates, taking ownership of their careers.
  • Strengthen Databricks' standing as a trusted participant in Apache and Linux Foundation ecosystems.
  • Establish repeatable advocacy approaches that the rest of DevRel can adopt.
  • Grow external adoption and contribution across our open source projects.
  • Drive awareness and adoption of the Open Lakehouse and Omnigent through speaking at industry events.
  • Guide the creation of high-quality educational content.
  • Expand and nurture communities by growing meetups and user groups.
  • Represent the community inside R&D, turning contributor friction into roadmap changes.
  • Apply AI-assisted workflows to increase team leverage.
  • Define and defend meaningful success metrics for an open source DevRel team.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of combined experience in developer relations or developer advocacy and in a hands-on technical role.
  • 2+ years managing and growing a developer relations team.
  • A substantial, verifiable open source track record.
  • Established relationships within the Apache Software Foundation and Linux Foundation ecosystems.
  • Deep knowledge of the Open Lakehouse stack and the agentic open source landscape.
  • Subject matter knowledge of solving data engineering, data science, or data analytics problems at scale.
  • Genuine passion for growing people and building strong teams.
  • Active participation and recognized leadership in open source community forums.
  • Proven track record in nurturing developer communities.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Experience using AI to scale a team's output.
  • Adept at collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
