National Story Desk Editor (Digital Content Producer)

TEGNA is seeking a National Story Desk Editor (Digital Content Producer) to join their Central News Desk, which publishes national and trending content for TEGNA's 51 markets.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned digital journalist with at least two years of experience writing and publishing digital news content for a local or national news organization. They should be a skilled storyteller with a mobile-first mindset, able to thrive in a fast-paced breaking news environment, and make sound editorial decisions under deadline.

Key responsibilities include:

• Reacting quickly to breaking news and trends
• Maintaining a daily budget of top national and trending stories
• Crafting compelling headlines that drive audience engagement
• Writing and publishing engaging short- and long-form digital news stories
• Using social listening and SEO trends to identify unique story opportunities
• Supporting local stations during breaking news coverage
• Creating and editing made-for-platform videos
• Utilizing audience data and social analytics to inform content decisions
• Managing station requests and editorial priorities
• Strategizing and executing multi-platform content plans for major events and projects
• Curating and managing third-party content
• Leveraging AI tools to streamline newsroom workflows
• Collaborating closely with digital producers across the country

Requirements:

• At least two years of professional experience writing and publishing digital news content
• Demonstrated experience covering breaking news in a digital newsroom
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
• Solid news judgment and social media judgment
• Familiarity with digital and social analytics tools
• Knowledge of SEO best practices and audience trends
• Experience using a content management system (CMS)
• Familiarity with AI tools and newsroom automation platforms
• Basic image and video editing skills
