Staff Data Scientist, Causal Inference & Experimentation

Discord is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to lead the Causal Inference & Experimentation team. The successful candidate will formulate the vision and roadmap for the Experimentation Platform, provide statistical expertise, and partner with engineering and product teams to improve experimentation across Discord.

Responsibilities:

• Formulate the vision and set the roadmap for the future of the Experimentation Platform
• Provide statistical expertise to ensure sound experimentation methodologies and frameworks
• Partner with engineering and product to improve experimentation reliability, scalability, and adoption
• Lead initiatives to educate and train cross-functional teams on experimentation design and statistical methodology
• Empower the Data Science team to adopt more rigorous causal inference methods
• Conduct original causal inference research on high-priority Discord questions
• Engage with experimentation customers to ensure the platform enables fast, reliable, data-driven decisions

Requirements:

• PhD in a quantitative field or equivalent practical experience
• 4+ years of experience designing, implementing, and analyzing experiments or causal inference projects
• Proven experience leading experimentation platform work
• Strong passion for education and communicating complex statistical concepts
• Proficiency with Python, SQL, R, and/or other statistical programming languages

• Track record using causal inference methods that translated into business decisions and outcomes
• Experience autonomously leading cross-functional projects
• Comfort using AI/LLM tools to accelerate causal inference workflows
