Senior Software Engineer

GitLab is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work on the data layer behind its vulnerability and dependency management capabilities, and on services outside the GitLab monolith.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll design and develop systems that ingest, store, index, and query security report data, including integrations with key third-party systems. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, design, frontend, and engineering partners.

Key responsibilities:

• Own significant components of larger deliverables, from technical design through delivery
• Design and develop backend systems for vulnerability and dependency management
• Build and improve systems using Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL
• Develop deep PostgreSQL expertise by improving queries and schemas
• Collaborate directly with product, design, frontend, and engineering partners on decisions within your scope

Requirements:

• Professional backend engineering experience delivering production features and components at scale
• Hands-on PostgreSQL experience, including query profiling and optimization, indexing, and schema design decisions
• Professional experience with Ruby on Rails, Go, or Python
• Evidence of guiding peers through complex work or independently carrying out a delivery plan
• The ability to collaborate with a range of partners and explain technical tradeoffs clearly
