Description

Electronic Arts is seeking a Narrative Director to lead the creation of a coherent fiction for their world. The successful candidate will have broad influence, from contextualizing gameplay to defining the game's voice and directing the writing team.

As a Narrative Director, you will direct our efforts to create a compelling core story. You will report to the Creative Director and collaborate with other chapter directors, producers, and narrative team members. The goal is to develop a high-quality narrative AAA gameplay experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Shape the themes, tones, and atmosphere of the game's setting and overall experience
  • Build and direct a writing and narrative design team
  • Set the narrative vision, pillars, and strategy for the product
  • Establish and maintain the narrative direction for the project
  • Partner with other discipline directors and producers to integrate the narrative into the game
  • Find innovative ways to communicate stories through the world that promote player agency
  • Support and guide the environment team in researching history, locations, and events
  • Determine production priorities, high-level schedule, and scope adjustments with Producers and senior partners
  • Be a partner in the casting and recording processes
  • Guide the ideation process as the team brainstorms ideas, characters, quests, and narrative structure
  • Manage senior members of the Narrative team
  • Develop others on the narrative and wider design team in narrative design principles and methodologies
  • Collaborate with and lead other game writers and narrative designers to build narrative gameplay elements
  • Work with the game design team to develop gameplay features to support and convey the story
  • Provide regular feedback
  • Support and encourage a mindset of diversity and inclusion

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Narrative Director on an AAA game
  • Experience with narrative writing and game design
  • Understanding of best practices for creating high-quality narrative gameplay experiences
  • Experience with games and bringing passion for narrative to help shape the culture of a team
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to create and communicate vision to partners and lead strategic efforts with the team
  • Experience managing quality, consistency, and coherency across a team of creatives and designers
