News Director

KBMT KJAC-TV, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Beaumont, TX, is seeking a News Director to oversee all aspects of its multi-platform content operation.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for engaging storytelling, investigative excellence, and creating relevant, compelling, and impactful news content with a focus on breaking news, local weather, and sports.

Responsibilities:

• Lead daypart teams to create unique newscasts showcasing high-quality content
• Coach producers to execute newscasts in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner
• Coach on-air reporters to perform engagingly
• Lead recruitment efforts for newsroom positions, focusing on building a diverse newsroom
• Be a key voice in the editorial process
• Use research and analytics to guide editorial decisions
• Collaborate with content leaders to ensure alignment of broadcast and digital platforms
• Oversee planning of special events and major breaking news coverage

Requirements:

• College degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
• Minimum 5-7 years of news experience, including supervision and leadership of journalists
• Skills in producing engaging, urgent, high-value content-driven newscasts
• Strong writing skills; special programming experience a plus
• Solid social media skills, including an active news hound strategy
• Experience in shooting, editing, and content management systems
• Understanding of professional journalism tenets
• Organizational skills and ability to remain calm under deadlines
