At Komodo Health, our mission is to reduce the global burden of disease through smarter use of data. We're building the Healthcare Map, the industry's largest and most complete view of the U.S. healthcare system, combining de-identified patient data with innovative algorithms and clinical experience.
As a Staff Infrastructure Engineer, you will join the Infrastructure team, which builds, operates, and improves the cloud-native stack for the entire engineering organization. You'll focus on AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, ArgoCD, and GitHub Actions, along with shared services like identity and access, API gateway, and traffic management.
Your key accomplishments in the first 12 months will include:
- Establishing AI-assisted workflows as the team's default operating model
- Bringing inherited shared services under infrastructure-as-code with documented ownership and modernization roadmaps
- Delivering measurable cloud cost reduction and a reusable framework for cost vs. reliability tradeoffs
- Improving platform currency and upgrade discipline across shared services
- Reducing developer friction and support toil through automation
Responsibilities:
- Own the architecture, operating model, and modernization roadmap for cloud infrastructure and shared services
- Design, build, and operate AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure as code using Terraform, GitOps, and CI/CD
- Set standards and safe patterns for AI-assisted infrastructure work
- Harden security and compliance posture, focusing on least-privilege IAM and RBAC, identity and access management, and secrets hygiene
- Drive infrastructure optimization across reliability, scalability, developer experience, and cost
- Raise the technical bar across the infrastructure team through design review, mentorship, and enablement
- Participate in and improve the shared on-call rotation, incident response, and alerting
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, or platform engineering with deep hands-on AWS experience
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform
- Kubernetes platform ownership experience
- Track record of taking ownership of ambiguous or under-documented systems
- Fluency with AI-assisted engineering tools and sound judgment on their application
- Security and compliance fluency in a regulated environment
- Staff-level partnership and influence
Preferred skills and experience:
- Identity and access platforms: Okta, OIDC, SAML
- API gateway and service networking: Envoy
- Scripting and automation in Python, Go, or Bash
- FinOps or cloud cost-optimization program experience
- Observability at platform scale
- Familiarity with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake
The pay range for this role is: San Francisco Bay Area and New York City: $215,000-$265,000 USD All Other US Locations: $187,000-$235,000 USD
