Description

The PD Academy program is a structured development program combining role-specific training with an applied engineering project. Join Ford’s Product Development Engineering Design team to develop vehicle components and support their progression from concept through analysis, optimization, and production.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage robust, parametric 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, motion files, and related product data using CATIA V5/V6 and applicable systems.
  • Develop design concepts and alternatives based on functional requirements, system architecture, design rules, and program deliverables.
  • Support BOM structures and applicable engineering release processes.
  • Identify system interfaces and potential compatibility issues using virtual validation and vehicle-environment tools.
  • Participate in and, as appropriate, lead design reviews and visualization activities.
  • Partner with Core Engineering, Product Development, manufacturing, tool shops, and suppliers to resolve feasibility, compatibility, attribute, and functional issues.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing principles and relevant engineering methods and standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools and processes, and communicate progress, risks, and technical concerns clearly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Engineering fundamentals in mechanical or structural design, materials, and GD&T; experience with 3D CAD and 2D drafting.
  • Knowledge of CATIA V5/V6 is preferred; familiarity with Teamcenter and visualization tools such as Vismockup is an advantage.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, metal stamping, or thermoforming.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering and relevant product-development methods or Core Tools, such as DFMEA/FMEA, APQP, PPAP, or 5D problem solving.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, English proficiency, cross-functional collaboration, curiosity, and an improvement mindset.
  • Automotive product development or launch experience is an advantage.
