We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer – UI Platform Lead to join our cross Barclays Digital Platform (XDP) engineering team. The successful candidate will lead the team shaping how digital experiences are built and delivered across Barclays.
The role involves designing, developing, and improving software using various engineering methodologies to provide business, platform, and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and delivering high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools
- Collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements and devise solution strategies
- Participating in code reviews and promoting a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing
- Staying informed about industry technology trends and innovations and contributing to the organisation's technology communities
- Adhering to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data
As a Senior Software Engineer – UI Platform Lead, you will be expected to have expertise in:
- React and TypeScript in a library or platform context
- Design token architectures and tooling that transforms tokens across platforms
- Building integrations between a platform and external tools
- Java and Spring for API services, or Node.js for tooling and build pipelines
- Experience with generative or AI-assisted developer tools
Highly valued skills include:
- Infrastructure-as-code, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipeline design for platform services
- Building or running registries, artefact distribution, or developer tooling platforms
- Familiarity with how mobile and native teams consume shared UI artefacts
- JSON Schema, OpenAPI, or contract-first API design
- Contributions to open-source projects, design systems, or technical standards
