Description
Challenge Preparatory Charter School seeks a Middle School/High School Academic Assistant/Para to support students and teachers in the classroom and extracurricular activities. The Academic Assistant will help instructors prepare and revise instructional materials, distribute materials to students, mark attendance, and inform students about classroom schedules and events.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare instructional materials, test papers, scorecards, handouts, and other materials necessary for tutoring and evaluation of students
- Mark attendance of students and prepare weekly and monthly attendance reports
- Inform students about classroom schedules, upcoming tests and assignments, assessment results, and extracurricular activities
- Set up and operate audiovisual equipment such as projectors
- Participate in community service activities, after-school and family events
- Supervise student arrivals, dismissals, and late arrivals
- Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments
- Assist operational and teaching staff with tasks such as maintaining storage and supply areas, unpacking materials, and updating bulletin boards
- Manage tasks associated with emergency preparedness
- Take shifts covering the Main Office as necessary
- Ensure the space is always clean and welcoming for parents and visitors
Requirements:
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma
- Completion of at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education is preferred
- NYS Level 1 Teacher Assistant Certification required
- Teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred
This is a full-time, twelve-month position with a salary range of USD 45,000-50,000 per year.
