Staff+ Research Engineer, RL Data Platform

The RL Data Platform team builds systems that produce, move, and serve the human data Claude learns from.

As a Staff+ Research Engineer, you will design and ship web interfaces used by thousands of expert annotators, build backend services and data pipelines, and work directly with RL researchers.

Key responsibilities:

• Design, build, and operate feedback and data collection interfaces
• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and pipelines
• Own reliability, latency, and usability of systems
• Partner with RL researchers to translate data needs into collection campaigns
• Build dashboards, monitoring, and inspection tools
• Identify and remove bottlenecks between data requests and training mix

Minimum qualifications:

• Strong full-stack engineering skills with production experience in TypeScript/React and Python
• Experience designing and operating backend services and data pipelines
• Track record of owning projects end-to-end
• Comfort working with technical stakeholders and effective use of AI tools
• Care about societal impacts of work

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience building annotation, labelling, evaluation, or human-in-the-loop data tooling
• Experience with RLHF, preference data, or human-feedback pipelines
• Experience shipping researcher-facing internal tools
• Experience running experiments on data collection interfaces
• Familiarity with LLM training and evaluation

The annual compensation range for this role is $500,000-$850,000 USD.
