Description
This role owns and evolves the software tooling landscape for systems engineering, defining the roadmap for requirements capture, analysis, workflow automation and the application of AI to improve engineering effectiveness, throughput, traceability and delivery quality.
The role combines tool strategy with hands-on delivery , developing and maintaining integrated toolchains that strengthen traceability, testability and consistency across systems engineering outputs, while supporting the wider business through training, onboarding and continuous improvement of Jama-based ways of working.
Responsibilities
- Tooling Roadmap & Ownership: Own and maintain the systems engineering tooling roadmap, covering requirements capture, analysis tools, workflow support and the practical application of AI. Prioritise development in line with business needs, engineering demand and long-term capability goals.
- Toolchain Development & Administration: Develop, configure and maintain the core systems engineering toolchain, ensuring tools are reliable, integrated where appropriate and able to support traceable, testable and efficient delivery of engineering outputs.
- Process Improvement & Automation: Identify opportunities to improve engineering workflows, remove manual effort and increase consistency through better methods, automation and fit-for-purpose tooling enhancements.
- Jama User Enablement: Support the business in adopting and using Jama effectively through onboarding, training materials, user guidance, community management and continuous support, helping to embed robust and consistent ways of working.
- Tool Governance & Standards: Maintain clear governance, standards and data discipline across systems engineering tools, templates and workflows to ensure quality, consistency and confidence in the resulting engineering artefacts.
Requirements
- Experience with systems engineering tools, requirements management platforms and engineering workflow automation in a complex technical environment.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering processes, including requirements traceability, verification linkage and delivery of high-quality engineering artefacts.
- Practical experience configuring, maintaining or improving integrated toolchains that support efficient and repeatable engineering workflows.
- Experience supporting Jama users through onboarding, training material development and day-to-day guidance on effective tool usage.
- Hands-on software development experience, with practical capability in languages such as Python, Java and C++, together with an understanding of distributed systems, to support tooling development, automation and integration activities.
- Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and automation, and to translate business needs into practical tooling or workflow enhancements.
- Awareness of emerging AI capabilities and the judgement to apply them appropriately within engineering processes and controls.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work across engineering, programme and business teams to drive adoption and continuous improvement.
