Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Backend Software Engineer to join the GrabDefence team in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

As a Backend Software Engineer on the GrabDefence team, you will help build and maintain the backend systems that protect Grab's financial ecosystem, especially on digi-banks.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform:

  • Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs using modern programming languages and frameworks
  • Architect and implement microservices-based solutions that meet performance and reliability requirements
  • Improve database queries and design efficient data models for both SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Collaborate with teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Implement security best practices and conduct code reviews to ensure code quality and system integrity
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive unit tests and integration tests to ensure code reliability
  • Participate in system design discussions and contribute to technical documentation

QUALIFICATIONS: What Essential Skills You will Need:

  • 3+ years of professional backend software development experience
  • Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Java, Python, Go, C++, or similar)
  • Experience with RESTful API design and development principles
  • Experience with relational and non-relational database systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems
  • Proficiency with version control systems (Git)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Knowledge of message queue systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Background in security or defense-related systems
  • Agile/Scrum development experience
