Description
Anduril's Space team is dedicated to expanding AI-powered capabilities into space, enhancing Space Domain Awareness, Space Control, and Command and Control for U.S. military and allied partners.
As a Firmware Engineer on Space, you will build and deploy solutions supporting specific customer missions for on-orbit spacecraft operations and mission management. You will contribute to low-level firmware development for systems operating on on-orbit spacecraft, developing modular capabilities to support DoD and IC customers across the space domain.
Responsibilities
- Develop low-level firmware/software for microcontrollers, create reusable device drivers, integrate system-level features, and architect changes to support an ever-growing codebase.
- Own complex firmware features of an embedded system.
- Quickly debug and troubleshoot issues spanning electrical, firmware, and software boundaries.
- Help select microcontrollers and peripherals, review schematics with the electrical engineering team.
- Collaborate across multiple teams to plan, build, and test complex functionality.
- Concurrently manage involvement in multiple projects at various stages.
Requirements
- Strong engineering background from industry or school, ideally in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
- Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and detailed requirements.
- Capable of solving complex technical problems with little oversight.
- Clear communication and organisational skills, including documentation and training material.
- 5+ years of experience in firmware/embedded software development, with a focus on embedded systems.
- Strong C coding ability for embedded systems.
- Experience integrating microcontrollers with analog and digital sensors.
- Experience developing firmware in bare-metal or RTOS environments.
- Debugging skills with JTAG, SWD, Oscilloscopes, and Logic analysers.
- Solid understanding and application of coding best practices, board bring-up, and debugging.
- Experience with common bus protocols such as USB, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS232, RS485, Ethernet, etc.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced expertise with C/C++.
- Experience working with a variety of programming languages such as C, C++, Rust, Python.
- Experience with multiple microcontroller cores (ARM, AVR, MSP430, PIC, etc.).
- Experience with satellite mission autonomy, including fault isolation and recovery systems.
- Desire to work on critical software in the space domain.
- Bias for action and natural curiosity about technologies and tools.
