Description
Some careers have more impact than others. If you’re looking for further opportunities to develop your career, take the next step in fulfilling your potential right here at HSBC.
The Opportunity Group Functions Technology is a Global Function encompassing platforms that are vital to the bank’s operation. Our mission is to “Enable, Protect and Delight” HSBC’s global businesses. Within Group Functions Technology, Risk and Compliance Technology is building a real-time decisioning capability that can evaluate transaction events, coordinate multiple detection techniques and select the right preventative action within strict sub-second latency budgets.
Sitting above HSBC's real-time data feeds, the platform will orchestrate rules, machine-learning models, graph capabilities, foundation models and approved bounded agent functions across real-time, near-real-time and asynchronous execution tiers.
What you’ll do:
- Define and build HSBC’s real-time decisioning and model-orchestration platform for financial crime prevention
- Translate financial-crime policy and customer-outcome requirements into deterministic, explainable and auditable technical decisions
- Architect a resilient runtime that selects execution capabilities, sequences and parallelism and calibrates outputs into a traceable decision
- Engineer low-latency, highly available distributed systems with explicit time budgets, fallbacks, circuit breakers and safe degradation
- Own the technical direction across model execution orchestration and decision strategy while keeping them as clearly separated platform capabilities
- Emphasize Java and Python, event-driven architecture, Kafka or equivalent streaming platforms, containers, Kubernetes and cloud-native engineering.
- Champion AI-enabled engineering and an agentic SDLC by embedding approved AI coding assistants and autonomous engineering agents with human oversight, traceability and governance
- Partner with CIOs, business leaders, architects, model owners, risk management, cybersecurity and engineering teams across Risk and Compliance to deliver safely at scale
- Mentor engineer teams and share knowledge through production code, design reviews, reference implementations and cross-team technical standards.
- Automate delivery and operation from the outset, including CI/CD, policy and model versioning, performance testing, failure injection, decision replay, rollback and controlled production releases.
What you will need to succeed in the role:
- As a Senior Technologist you should have hands-on engineering experience delivering critical production code and reference implementations
- Demonstrate deep mastery of Java or Python including high-performance services, concurrency and distributed workflow or orchestration engines
- Proven experience in designing low-latency distributed systems including API and event contracts, schema evolution, idempotency, back-pressure, load shedding, timeouts, retries and graceful degradation
- Experience in cloud native engineering, Kakfa or equivalent streaming platforms, containers, Kubernetes
- Experienced and comfortable operating in a highly regulated environment and the security and control framework this necessitates.
- Ability to communicate technology ideas clearly to business / senior leaders
- Ability to build trusted relationship & collaborate well beyond their immediate team (including model risk owners, architecture / platform / security / engineering teams, cross‑organization and at times external stakeholders / industry)
