We are seeking a Tech Lead, Site Reliability to join our Engineering department at Podium. As a Tech Lead, Site Reliability, you will be responsible for building and running infrastructure that works seamlessly, even at 3 am. You will lead a team of engineers who prioritize preventing incidents as much as resolving them, with a focus on automating toil, enhancing observability, and leveraging AI to optimize human efforts.
Responsibilities
Your Team
- Mentor and grow a team of Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), focusing on real career development.
- Recruit and retain top engineers, fostering a team environment that encourages longevity.
- Cultivate a culture of blameless postmortems and psychological safety.
- Manage day-to-day projects, including standups, ticket tracking, and stakeholder communication.
Reliability & Systems
- Ensure end-to-end availability and performance of production systems.
- Establish and enforce Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Oversee incident management, including on-call duties and postmortems.
- Drive automation to minimize repetitive tasks and focus on durable solutions.
- Manage capacity planning, scaling, and disaster recovery strategies.
AI-Augmented Operations
- Implement AI-driven investigation and incident agents to proactively identify issues.
- Evaluate and refine AI/LLM-based tooling to reduce false positives.
- Integrate AI into incident workflows for auto-summarization, root cause analysis, and postmortem drafting.
- Determine when to rely on automation versus human judgment.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Security to embed reliability into the software development lifecycle.
- Coordinate stakeholder communication during major incidents.
- Represent SRE in architecture reviews and advocate for reliability.
- Translate reliability metrics into actionable insights for leadership.
Process & Strategy
- Maintain up-to-date runbooks and playbooks.
- Monitor key metrics such as uptime, Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR), and error budgets.
- Drive continuous improvement in monitoring, alerting, and incident tooling.
- Provide input on budget and vendor decisions related to observability and infrastructure.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering.
- 2+ years of experience leading or managing a team.
- Proficiency with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure), Kubernetes, and Docker.
- Experience with observability tools like Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, and Honeycomb.
- Strong scripting and programming skills in languages like Python or Go.
- Proven track record in incident management and postmortem culture.
Nice to Have
- Experience with telephony solutions.
- Background in chaos engineering.
- Experience managing on-call rotations across distributed teams.
- Familiarity with security and compliance-related reliability work.
- History of scaling an SRE function within a growing company.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation.
- Open and transparent culture.
- Comprehensive benefits package including life insurance, disability coverage, paid parental leave, fertility benefits, and generous vacation time.
- Opportunities for career growth and professional development.
