Senior Applied Data Scientist

Flexport is looking for a Senior Applied Data Scientist to develop first-in-class science products to make fulfillment easy and efficient for merchants.

The role focuses on building automated decision-making processes that ensure merchants' expectations for fulfillment speed and reliability are met or exceeded, while growing the network in a cost-efficient way.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop models and algorithms to enable and improve the service of the fulfillment network, including optimal inventory management and reliable delivery service
• Collaborate with business/product teams to reduce fulfillment network variable costs by identifying cost-saving opportunities and finding proper solutions
• Contribute to projects that measurably impact business goals, translating business needs to actionable development plans and executing them successfully
• Work cross-functionally across Data Science, Engineering, Product, Planning, and Operations to implement production processes and reporting to achieve desired KPIs
• Contribute to data science and analytics best practices for the team and across the organization

Requirements:

• A degree in a quantitative field like Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Econometrics, etc.
• 5+ years of industry experience in solving optimization and/or machine learning problems and developing practically efficient, automated solutions
• Experience developing, enhancing, and maintaining end-to-end data science production processes, including data modeling, algorithm development, testing, and metric tracking
• Software engineering experience to build software to solve real industrial problems, with a strong understanding of system architecture
• Proficient with frontier AI models to proactively identify opportunities for business growth and operational cost savings
• Proficient with Python and SQL. Experience with Snowflake, dbt, data visualization/reporting tools (e.g., Looker) preferred
• A 'compliance first' attitude to keep regulators happy and enthusiastic about Flexport
