We're looking for a Game Design Intern who is curious about how games work and excited to learn how great player experiences are designed, built, tested, and improved.
As part of a game team, you will work alongside experienced designers and collaborate with disciplines such as engineering, art, experience design, product, analytics, and QA. You'll contribute to real game features and content while developing your skills across systems design, content design, balancing, prototyping, live services, and player-focused problem solving.
Responsibilities
- Support the design of game features, systems, content, and live-service experiences.
- Turn design ideas into clear flows, rules, requirements, and design documentation.
- Participate in brainstorming and design discussions, contributing ideas for new mechanics, features, events, and player experiences.
- Playtest features and content, identify design problems, gather feedback, and iterate on solutions.
- Work with designers, engineers, artists, experience designers, product managers, analysts, and QA to take ideas from concept toward implementation.
- Use player feedback, game data, and design principles to understand how features can be improved.
- Support balancing gameplay, progression, rewards, difficulty, and other game systems.
- Research games and competitors to understand design patterns, player motivations, market trends, and opportunities for innovation.
- Contribute to live-service content such as events, challenges, progression experiences, or other recurring player activities.
- Explore how emerging tools, including AI-assisted workflows, can help improve ideation, research, prototyping, documentation, and iteration.
Requirements
- A foundational understanding of game design principles, including gameplay loops, player motivation, progression, balance, feedback, challenge, and reward.
- Strong interest in building games and understanding why players find experiences engaging and fun.
- Creative and structured problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly through written documentation, diagrams, presentations, or prototypes.
- Curiosity, willingness to learn, and openness to feedback and iteration.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with people from different disciplines.
- Currently pursuing a degree/diploma in Game Design, Game Development, Computer Science, Interactive Media, or a related discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent skills through personal or academic projects.
- A portfolio, playable project, prototype, game jam project, level, system design, or other game-design work that demonstrates your thinking and interest in game development.
