We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Sr Associate Director Software Engineering at HSBC. In this role, you will design, develop and maintain secure, scalable and high-performing applications using Java, Spring Boot and modern full-stack technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and maintain secure, scalable and high-performing applications using Java, Spring Boot and modern full-stack technologies.
- Develop robust, reusable and well-tested backend services, RESTful APIs and microservices to support business-critical banking applications.
- Build responsive and accessible user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React or Angular.
- Translate business and technical requirements into high-quality, maintainable software solutions.
- Design and optimize data models, SQL queries and database integrations using relational and NoSQL databases.
- Apply secure coding practices, engineering standards and design patterns across the software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, business analysts, QA engineers, DevOps teams and other stakeholders to deliver solutions effectively.
- Conduct code reviews, troubleshoot production issues, improve application performance and contribute to continuous engineering improvements.
Requirements:
- 12–15 years’ experience in software development, with strong hands-on expertise in Java and full-stack application development.
- Advanced knowledge of Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security and related enterprise technologies and Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, microservices and event-driven applications.
- Strong front-end development experience with React, Angular or a comparable modern JavaScript framework. Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript and responsive web development.
- Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL or MySQL, including SQL development and performance tuning.
- Experience with cloud platforms, containerization and DevOps technologies such as AWS or Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins and Git.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and practices, including JUnit, Mockito, integration testing and test-driven development.
- Strong understanding of secure software development, application performance, observability and production support. Experience working in Agile delivery teams using Scrum or Kanban.
- Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a large, regulated financial-services environment.
