Database Engineer

As a Database Engineer, you will install, configure, and maintain database management systems, monitor and optimize database performance, develop and implement database backup and recovery plans, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) and related software with an emphasis on automating routine deployment tasks.
• Monitor and optimize database performance using tools like New Relic or AWS Cloudwatch.
• Develop and implement database backup and recovery plans, ensuring these processes are fully automated and tested for disaster recovery scenarios.
• Manage and monitor database security and access control, implementing automated security protocols to protect sensitive data.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, focusing on building scripts to proactively identify and fix connectivity or data integrity issues.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive database documentation, including data models and schemas.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and data privacy policies through automated auditing and reporting.
• Participate in the design of database systems, collaborating with IT staff to replace legacy manual workflows with streamlined, automated solutions.
• Perform database tuning and optimization, utilizing automated scripts to ensure consistent, optimal performance.
• Develop and implement automated maintenance procedures.
• Plan and implement database upgrades and migrations.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in database administration or a related field, with a strong focus on process automation.
• Foundational knowledge of DBMS such as MariaDB, MySQL, SQL Server, Redshift, Timestream, Cassandra, Flink, Kafka, or Redis.
• Strong knowledge of database security and access control.
• Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures, disaster recovery, and high availability concepts.
• Experience with database monitoring tools, such as New Relic or AWS Cloudwatch.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
