When the Tarr Steps, a historical footbridge in Exmoor National Park, was repeatedly damaged by floods, the Royal Engineers kept rebuilding it, illustrating the challenge of maintaining outdated structures. At Mercury, we're focused on engineering the future of banking with durable solutions rather than temporary fixes.
As part of our Stability team, you're tasked with embedding with product teams to enhance their operational maturity. This involves setting up and refining practices around on-call duties, monitoring, alerting, and runbooks. You'll also conduct regular game day exercises to prepare teams for incidents and implement reliability techniques in Haskell and TypeScript applications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with product teams to improve operational maturity
- Running game day exercises for incident preparedness
- Implementing reliability techniques in application code
- Steering Service Level Objectives (SLOs) towards meaningful customer outcomes
- Championing reliability practices through design and code reviews
- Identifying and addressing observability gaps
- Advocating for long-term improvements
- Participating in on-call rotations
The ideal candidate has experience in Site Reliability Engineering or DevOps, measurable impact on organisational reliability, and significant experience with PostgreSQL, Temporal workflows, and observability platforms like Grafana or Honeycomb.
