Description
Purpose of the role
As Head of Pricing - Insurance at Zego, you will lead the insurer’s technical view of the models that drive pricing. This covers actuarial risk models, demand and market models, and predictive models used for pricing and underwriting decisions.
Your role is to ensure the insurer can form an actuarial view on these models, validate their underlying assumptions, and stand behind the rates they carry. You will work closely with the MGA pricing teams, underwriting team, and co-insurance partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the insurer’s technical view across the full model landscape: actuarial risk models, demand models, market and optimisation models.
- Bring an actuarial view to all modelling approaches, including AI-driven models.
- Independently validate actuarial risk models that set net rates.
- Review, validate, and challenge pricing and underwriting proposals across personal and commercial lines.
- Contribute to portfolio management and portfolio insight.
- Support the insurer’s position with co-insurance partners on net rates and model validation.
- Mentor and coach junior actuarial colleagues.
- Help build processes, governance, and tooling, including AI, for the actuarial team.
Requirements
- Qualified actuary or equivalent track record with at least ten years of hands-on modelling experience.
- Deep experience with classic actuarial risk modelling: GLMs built in Emblem, Akur8, or equivalent, with practical experience in Python.
- Exposure to newer modelling approaches, such as GBMs and machine learning methods.
- Experience with UK motor pricing and ideally with other lines of business.
- Experience with newly launched portfolios or portfolios with limited history.
- Experience with telematics products and their pricing.
- Strong judgement on model trustworthiness.
- Comfortable working in a small team with high influence and direct access to decision-making.
