Job Overview

Join Anduril's Warfighter Systems division as an Optical Systems Technical Lead, AR/VR Displays, in Bellevue, Washington. You will lead the development and optimization of advanced display test and calibration processes for mixed reality applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture decisions and optical trades for novel near-to-eye display sub-systems.
  • Own the optical system across its full lifecycle, including integration, alignment, test, and verification.
  • Define optical performance requirements and flow them down into component specifications.
  • Build and defend the optical error budget for the system.
  • Partner with optical process engineering to co-develop manufacturing and metrology processes.
  • Own the correlation between model and measured hardware performance.
  • Evaluate and analyze prototype and production optical system performance errors.

Travel Requirements

  • Regular international travel, approximately every one to two months, to Taiwan to work with optical process engineering and production teams.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering with a concentration in Optics.
  • Relevant experience in complex optical system design, analysis, alignment, and test.
  • Demonstrated ownership across the full systems-engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience with optical design and analysis software (Zemax or CODE V).
  • Experience with STOP analysis.
  • Knowledge of image quality metrics and data analysis methods.
  • Experience with diffraction-limited imaging systems in dynamic environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally on a regular cadence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated first-principles approach to complex opto-mechanical problems.
  • Direct experience partnering with optical process engineering.
  • Experience with optical component testing, system alignment and testing, and opto-electrical system modeling.
  • Radiometry and stray light analysis experience.
  • Team leadership and mentoring experience.
