Staff Software Engineer: Compute

Job Overview

We're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Compute team at Anthropic. You'll play a key role in developing software and Claude-powered tools to help Anthropic scale its compute capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Build core systems to track a datacenter's lifecycle, including sites, designs, bills of materials, equipment, and construction progress.
• Collaborate with datacenter, energy, and supply chain teams to understand their workflows and develop tools that meet their needs.
• Integrate with industry tools, such as construction management, scheduling, and engineering systems.
• Design for trust, ensuring fine-grained permissions, auditability, and data quality for information that informs major investment decisions.
• Ship early, iterate with users, and prioritize features that bring compute online sooner.
• Partner with research to understand new model capabilities and identify areas for improvement.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience with strong full-stack skills and a solid understanding of data modeling, APIs, and databases.
• Experience building software for physical-world industries, such as datacenters, construction, energy, or manufacturing.
• A track record of zero-to-one work in startup or startup-like environments.
• Deep user-centricity, with a focus on learning from domain experts and validating assumptions.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across engineering, operations, and research teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience in datacenters or adjacent fields like construction, logistics, or electrical engineering.
• Familiarity with industry-specific tools, such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or Primavera P6.
• Background in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering, energy systems, or supply chain management.
• Experience building products with large language models.

Logistics

• Annual salary: $405,000 - $485,000 USD.
• Location: San Francisco, CA | New York City, NY | Seattle, WA.
• Hybrid policy: 25% office time.
